Police in Osnabrück said a 7-year-old became the centre of attention at his elementary school after he produced a wad of banknotes totalling €5,000 and showed them to classmates. The cash, all legal, had been withdrawn by his parents who were planning to buy a car. The boy found the envelope at home and slipped it into his school satchel.
He let friends inspect — and even sniff — some of the notes, which eventually drew the teacher’s attention. As a precaution, the teacher contacted police Wednesday morning. An officer attended, verified the situation, collected the money, placed it back in the envelope and returned it to the parents. Authorities said there was no wrongdoing; the purchase of the car will be postponed for the moment, and the schoolchildren went back to their day.
