Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says only a few details remain to be resolved before Kyiv could accept a U.S.-backed peace proposal intended to end Russia’s invasion. The draft, prepared last month by a U.S. special envoy together with a foreign policy adviser to Vladimir Putin, initially tilted heavily toward Russian positions. Since then, the plan has been revised to incorporate input from Ukraine and European partners, but it remains uncertain whether Moscow will accept those changes.
Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, discussed the negotiations and her role in shaping the updated text in an interview with Morning Edition host A Martinez. Stefanishyna emphasized that any acceptable agreement must include guarantees preventing renewed Russian aggression and protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty. She said Kyiv and its allies are focused on securing enforceable safeguards and clarifying remaining technical points so the plan could deliver a lasting, stable peace—if, and only if, Russia agrees to the revised terms.
