Don’t tell Amazon there’s a slowing job market. As part of a national hiring push, the online retailer is holding Career Day events next week to fill more than 30,000 jobs.
The hiring events will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17, in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, Seattle and in Arlington, Virginia, where the company is building its second U.S. headquarters.
The jobs, which include full-time and part-time positions, are in a variety of sites across the U.S. including Amazon’s headquarters, data centers and fulfillment centers. Openings run the gamut from entry-level and corporate roles to openings for high-tech software and retail scanning developers. All jobs pay at least $15 per hour and have “competitive benefits,” the company says.

In July, Amazon said it planned to spend $700 million to retrain one-third of its U.S. employees – about 100,000 workers – by 2025 to reshape its workforce to fit its evolving needs. Those interested can register for the Career Day events on Amazon.com’s job site.
About 1,000 recruiters will be at the Career Day events to talk with prospective applicants, Amazon says. This hiring spree, the largest the company has had so far, it says, illustrates Amazon’s evolution. Started as an online bookstore more than two decades ago, Amazon now produces movies, makes voice-activated gadgets and has plans to send satellites into space to provide internet service.
Beyond the Career Day positions, Amazon has also begun hiring “tens of thousands” of seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday season. More information about those jobs can be found at amazondelivers.jobs.
Amazon already has more than 650,000 employees worldwide, making it the second-biggest U.S.-based private employer behind Walmart. And that number will likely rise: Amazon’s second headquarters in Arlington is expected to employ 25,000 people in the next 12 years. And the company has moved into more industries, including health care and advertising.
