Sprouts Farmers Market is recalling frozen spinach leaves voluntarily after finding traces of listeria in the product.

Frozen Cut Spinach Leaves regular and organic 16 oz. bags have been pulled from Sprouts stores after random testing showed contamination The company, along with manufacturer National Frozen Foods of Oregon, is conducting an internal investigation. 

The recalled products are:

  • Sprouts Frozen Cut Leaf Spinach, 16oz. bag,
    • UPC 87487500982, Lot 19031203A03 
    • USE BY 12/03/21
  • Sprouts Frozen Organic Cut Leaf Spinach, 16oz. bag,
    • UPC 87487500991, Lot 19031203A03 
    • USE BY 12/03/21 

Identifying information can be found on the back of the packages. The product was delivered to stores in 19 states: Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.

Listeria can cause short-term symptoms of headaches, fever, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It is also known to cause fatal infections in those with weak immune systems such as children and the elderly, as well as cause miscarriages and stillborn births among pregnant women.

Consumers who have bought the recalled frozen spinach can return it to the store for a full refund, and customers who have questions are encouraged to call Sprouts at 1-(888)-577-7688 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
