Amazon started off as a bookseller and, over the past 20 years, has evolved into the retail behemoth we know and love today. Amazon Prime Day is an excellent opportunity to get back to basics and dive into the books you’ve been meaning to read for a while, and to finally snag one of those Kindles to replace the pile on your nightstand. Here are our recommendations to help you regain your reading habit.

Kindle Oasis bundle
This is the ultimate all-inclusive Kindle option for Prime Day. Not only are you getting the sleek, metal-bodied, and highly technically adept 9th generation Kindle Oasis (Amazon’s flagship line), you’re getting an Amazon-brand leather cover and power adapter, making this essentially the power reader’s ideal bundle where eReaders are concerned. The Oasis here is the 32GB model, outfitted with Wi-Fi and a 7-inch, 300 ppi display.
While it isn’t the latest version, the 9th gen Oasis still knocked it out of the park during our tests. The Oasis’s built-in Audible capability means you can switch from reading to listening without changing your device. If you know you want the best Kindle, and you know you want to protect it, this seems like the bundle for you.

The 32GB Kindle Oasis—with its huge storage capacity, metal design, almost bezel-less e-ink display, and touch/backlit screen—is the high-end, luxury version of everyone’s favorite eReader. Available in graphite and champagne gold, this is the Kindle to buy if price is no object when it comes to a compact and highly durable device for reading all your favorite books and magazines.
While it’s still oodles more expensive than the other Kindles, you can save $80 on Prime Day, though we still generally recommend the Paperwhite and original Kindle where savings are concerned.

The 2019 Paperwhite is perhaps the best Kindle yet—at least, it took the top spot in our Best Kindles of 2019 roundup. This is technically the 10th generation Paperwhite, meaning Amazon’s had plenty of time to perfect the device. To that end, you’re getting a lot of if-it-aint-broke, tried and true functionality, but also some new features: waterproofing and Audible compatibility. The modest 6-inch screen and classic e-ink display embody everything people love about the Kindle, but Amazon has made this one thinner and lighter and stuffed it with great features.
At $45 off, this is a solid deal, especially if you’d rather pay for steak than sizzle. You can also save $50 on the 32GB version, which you might want if you plan to download lots of comics, graphic novels, or Audible books. Plus, you can sign up for three months of free Kindle Unlimited, to make sure you never run out of reading material.

If you’ve been clinging to your favorite paperback and hardcover books, but are slowly losing ground to the sheer cost and space requirements of owning all physical tomes, Prime Day is a great time to take a chance on a Kindle and figure out what all the fuss is about.
The baseline, entry-level Kindle—available in black or white—is only $60 for Prime Day. Unlike the first run of e-ink only Kindles, the latest have 24 steps of illumination and capacitive touch. That’s a pretty solid little gadget for $60.

What good is a Kindle if you can’t read anything on it? Amazon Prime Day is offering up to 80% off some bestselling books from authors like Tom Wolfe, Philippa Gregory, and Andrew Sean Greer, among others. If you’d rather explore other authors, you can get a free trial month of Kindle Unlimited. If you’re looking to pick up a new device, many of the Kindles on sale, like the Paperwhite, come with a three month Kindle Unlimited free trial so you can test out the available choices before committing to the $9.99/month subscription.
