Target wants to help teachers stretch their back-to-school dollars on more than just supplies for their classrooms.
For the second year, the Minneapolis-based retailer will offer teachers a weeklong 15% discount on select items starting July 13, officials shared exclusively with USA TODAY Wednesday.
Jill Sando, Target’s senior vice president and general merchandise manager of apparel, accessories and home, said there was a “phenomenal response” during the inaugural event and teachers saved millions on classroom supplies.
“I’m excited we’re bringing the event back again this year with an expanded assortment of items eligible for the 15% discount, helping teachers save and get what they need for the upcoming school year,” Sando said in a statement.
This year, in addition to school supplies and essentials, which include disinfecting wipes and food storage bags, adult clothing and accessories, Pillowfort furniture and Bullseye’s Playground items also are included.

The discount is geared toward K-12 teachers, but Target will also offer the savings to teachers working at day care centers, early childhood learning centers and home schooling parents and teachers.
“We can take any document that ties your name and/or email address to an educational system” for verification, Target says in frequently asked questions. “Eligible guests who are not able to validate online can visit their local Target store and present their ID to the cashier for assistance.”
Other documents that can be submitted include a school ID card, letter of employment on school letterhead, current pay stub and official documents.
For teachers able to verify the information online, the coupon will be emailed.
