Movie nights are one of my favorite activities. There’s nothing better than settling into the couch and streaming the new Marvel movie you missed in theaters, or rewatching timeless classics like The Sound of Music or Jaws. The one thing that can singlehandedly ruin it though—besides burnt popcorn—is not being able to hear what’s happening on screen. This is actually a common plight for those who don’t have external speakers or a surround sound system in their living room.
Modern TVs are just too thin to house decently-sized speakers, and these days, manufacturers are much more concerned with display than sound. To get quality audio projection, you’re going to need a speaker with hundreds of watts of sound, like a soundbar. And currently one of the most powerful speakers we’ve tested, the LG SK8Y Dolby Atmos Soundbar, is on sale on Drop for $439, which is $60 off its usual $500 listing price and $160 less than Amazon has it right now.
The soundbar itself usually sells for around $270 on Amazon, but this deal is for more. It includes two rear wireless speakers and a subwoofer so you can actually enjoy a surround sound experience.
What you should know about this soundbar
The LG SK8Y Dolby Atmos Soundbar provides an incredibly rich, immersive sound experience due to its 360 watt audio output and “Wireless Surround Ready technology.” You can place the two wireless speakers behind your couch and those coupled with the wireless, 200-watt subwoofer will further enhance the theater-like sound. The SK8Y is also a Dolby Atmos system, which means that its speakers are angled in such a way to create the room-filling audio that Dolby is famous for. It does this so well that our home theater expert, Lee Neikirk, described it as “one of the most aurally powerful soundbars [he’d] ever experienced.”
Also notable is that the SK8Y has Google Assistant and Chromecast built in, so you can stream music, and use voice command for Google Search and to control your other smart devices. In terms of drawbacks, two reviewers mentioned that the sound modes aren’t anything special, and recommended to stick with standard mode. The Chromecast is also the standard version, and doesn’t support 4K, only audio casting. Both these aspects are pretty nit-picky though, and don’t detract from how powerful this soundbar is.
The sale details
If you’d like access to this impressive deal, simply sign up for an account with Drop. This sale also only lasts until Friday, July 5, so if you’ve been considering an audio upgrade to your entertainment center, now’s the time to buy. Also keep in mind that this soundbar has an estimated ship date of July 22, so you’ll have to wait a bit for this new addition to your home theater, but for this price, it’s so worth it.
