President Donald Trump is pushing the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates by one percentage point, claiming it would help the economy to “go up like a rocket.”
In a series of tweets published Tuesday, Trump said the lower rates along with “quantitative easing” would help bolster the economy.
“Yes, we are doing very well at 3.2% GDP, but with our wonderfully low inflation, we could be setting major records &, at the same time, make our National Debt start to look small!,” Trump wrote.
The Fed is hosting its regular Federal Open Market Committee meeting Tuesday and Wednesday.
Trump plans to name Stephen Moore, a convervative commentator and a fierce critic of the Fed, as a member of the Federal Reserve board. Trump has been critical of the Fed previously.
