Where to get a free cup and other deals


June brings the summer heat and some good deal days.

The sweetest is June 7 for National Doughnut Day, which is celebrated annually on the first Friday in June.

There are some deals to help with the heat including National Iced Tea Day (June 10) and then the official first day of summer (June 21), which also is National Smoothie Day.

Here are some of the big days for free food and discounts along with ongoing specials, available at participating locations. To be on the safe side, always check with your closest location before heading out. Also, some will require you to have a restaurant’s app or be signed up for emails.

Through June 10: Win Chipotle burritos

Watching the NBA Finals could earn you a free burrito.

Chipotle is giving away up to $1 million worth of free burritos during the 2019 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors. The promotion, which also includes free delivery, ends June 10.

The Mexican fast-casual chain announced it will be live tweeting a unique code good for the chance to win a free burrito every time an on-air announcer says the word “free” during the official coverage of the series.

Up to 500 free burritos will be given in the first half of each game based on the mentions of “free.” In the second half, up to 1,000 free burritos will be given away. To enter, text the correct code to 888222.

The promotion is limited to the first 20 on-air mentions of “free” during each game, according to the terms and conditions.

The free burrito codes will be valid for any regularly-priced entree through July 14.

Chipotle also will be offering free delivery through Monday, June 10 with a minimum $10 order on the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com or through DoorDash. If the series continues, the free delivery may also be extended. 

June 10: National Iced Tea Day

Tea Time is twice as sweet Monday. June 10 is the made-for-marketing National Iced Tea Day.

On any given day, more than one half of the American population drinks tea, with 75 to 80% opting for iced over hot, according to the Tea Council of the USA.

Tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world next to water, according to the association, which estimates Americans had over 84 billion servings of tea in 2018 amounting to more than 3.8 billion gallons. 

But even though tea is more popular than coffee, National Coffee Day held annually on Sept. 29 is a much bigger deal day with more national chains offering specials. 

Here are the deals:

Bill Miller Bar-B-Q: Bring a 32-ounce or smaller cup to any location for a free iced tea refill Monday.

Bojangles’: Starting Monday and continuing through late July, get a 32-ounce cup of Bojangles’ sweet Legendary Iced Tea for $1 at participating locations.

CEFCO Convenience Stores: Text CEFCLUB to 27640 for a free iced tea or foundation drink. Find other promotions at www.cefcostores.com/promotions.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf: Download the chain’s rewards app for free beverages, special perks and Social Hour offers at www.coffeebean.com.

McAlister’s Deli: The chain’s annual Free Tea Day is July 18 but there will be free samples at participating restaurant’s during the Tea Town Showdown. Sonny’s BBQ: Get a free Sonny’s Signature Sweet or Unsweet Tea with any purchase Monday at the chain’s 100 locations that span eight states.

Starbucks: While not a National Iced Tea Day deal, Starbucks Rewards members get free tea refills when they present the same registered Starbucks Card or mobile app used to make their purchase at participating stores during the same visit This offer also is available on brewed coffee purchases.

TAZO, Lipton and Pure Leaf: From Monday through Thursday, more than 1,200 restaurants across the country are giving away free tea. June 10: National Egg Roll Day

Monday, June 10 is the first National Egg Roll Day and the made-up holiday was established by Van’s Kitchen, a Dallas-based egg roll company, to mark its anniversary.

The company, which was founded in June 1986, is donating 90,000 egg rolls to a local branch of the Midwest Food Bank and has three deals. It will have $1 off National Egg Roll Day coupons available on social media by Winco, Van’s Kitchen Club Vantastic members will receive a digital coupon for the celebration, and coupons will be available at some Food 4 Less, Brookshire Grocery, Piggly Wiggly (southeast), Jungle Jim’s and Giant Eagle locations.

June 12: Peanut Butter Cookie Day

Nestle Toll House Café by Chip: Get one free peanut butter cookie per guest, in-store, while supplies last on June 12.

June 12: International Falafel Day

Naf Naf Grill: Get a buy-one-get-one on any falafel entrée June 12 in-store and online.

June 14: National Flip Flop Day

From 2 to 7 p.m. June 14, get a free limited-edition Sunshine Smoothie when you wear flip flops to Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations nationwide.

No coupon or purchase is needed to get the free 16-ounce special smoothie, which is a combination of orange, banana, pineapple and mango.

June 16: Father’s Day

June 18: Taco Bell freebie

Taco Bell is giving away free tacos for its “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco” promotion. The Golden State Warriors stole a road win in the second game of the 2019 NBA finals so the fast-food chain announced it will give away free Doritos Locos Tacos June 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. local time or any time that day for customers who order online or with the mobile app.

June 21: First day of summer

For the first day of summer, which also is National Smoothie Day, several businesses are offering frozen freebies or sweet, discounted treats. Here’s how they celebrated in 2018.

Through June 27: Free ‘Aladdin’ tickets 

For a limited time, Subway’s kids meals come with a way to get free tickets to the new “Aladdin” movie in theaters May 24.

The world’s largest restaurant chain is giving away Fandango promo codes for free children’s tickets to the new Disney movie with purchase of “Subway Fresh Fit for Kids” meals, while supplies last and at participating restaurants. Each Fresh Fit For Kids meal also includes one of four collectible Disney’s Aladdin-themed activities.

According to the fine print, the free tickets are worth up to $11 and expire July 3 or when Aladdin is no longer in theaters, whichever is first. There’s a limit of four Fandango promo codes per household.
