Lufthansa pilots have announced a two-day strike set to start at 00:01 on March 12 and run until 23:59 on March 13, affecting both passenger and cargo flights departing from German airports. The action was called by the VC pilots’ union after talks over proposed changes to pilots’ pension arrangements stalled and no improved offer was presented. In a concession reflecting concerns about the situation in the Middle East, flights to parts of the region — including Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Qatar and the UAE — will be exempt from the stoppage.
The industrial action follows earlier walkouts that Lufthansa said had already impacted passengers “extremely harshly.” The union says the strike is intended to increase pressure in the long-running dispute over pensions as negotiations continue without agreement. Travelers with affected departures should anticipate cancellations or delays and follow communications from the airline for information on rebooking and refund options.
