Indian leaders urged reflection, compassion and unity as Christians across the country observed Good Friday with solemn worship and prayer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X that the day recalled Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and should deepen values of harmony, compassion and forgiveness while inspiring hope and brotherhood.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi wished the public peace and love on the Christian holy day. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan said Good Friday was an occasion to reflect on Christ’s teachings of humility, selflessness and righteousness and to renew commitments to truth, kindness and social harmony.
Across India, congregations attended special services and public processions. In many places worshippers took part in reenactments of the crucifixion, Good Friday walks and other communal acts of remembrance, observing the solemnity of the day through prayer and shared reflection.
