Russian forces launched a fresh wave of drone and missile strikes overnight against cities in Ukraine, local officials said, leaving dozens wounded and damaging civilian infrastructure.
The attacks followed a weekend in which Ukraine carried out hundreds of drone strikes that hit targets in the Moscow region. Those Ukrainian operations came after earlier Russian strikes on Kyiv that reportedly killed at least 24 people and injured dozens more.
In the Black Sea port city of Odesa, local military officials reported that residential buildings, a school and a kindergarten were struck. Authorities said additional infrastructure in the area was hit, but gave no immediate update on the full toll of casualties or damage.
In the southeastern city of Dnipro, regional authorities said at least 26 people were injured, including a child. The governor said the region was struck across six districts with a mix of missiles, drones, artillery and aerial bombs.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia had launched 524 drones and 22 missiles overnight and that air defenses intercepted 503 of the drones. The air force added that Dnipro and its surrounding region appeared to be the primary target. Independent verification of the strike details and damage was not available.
Separately, the governor of Russia’s Rostov region said Russian forces had repelled an air attack there and destroyed drones over Taganrog, Kamensky and Azov districts; those Russian statements were likewise not independently verified.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pledged retaliatory strikes after the deadly attack on Kyiv and said Ukraine’s growing long-range capabilities were “significantly changing the situation.” He warned that the conflict was shifting and urged that no one pick a fight with Ukraine.
Information about the incidents continues to emerge from official Telegram posts and local sources, and casualty and damage assessments may be updated as more reporting and verification become available.
