Police in Osnabrück say a seven-year-old became the centre of attention at his primary school after producing an envelope containing €5,000 in cash. The parents had withdrawn the legal notes while planning to buy a car; the boy found the envelope at home and slipped it into his school satchel. At school he showed classmates the money, allowing them to handle — and even sniff — some of the banknotes, which eventually drew the teacher’s attention. As a precaution the teacher contacted police on Wednesday morning. An officer verified the circumstances, collected the cash, returned it to the parents and confirmed no criminality was involved. The car purchase has been postponed for now and the pupils returned to their lessons.
