A man armed with a knife was arrested in north London after two members of the public were stabbed, community group Shomrim and media outlets reported.
Shomrim said a man was seen running along Golders Green Road carrying a knife and attempting to attack Jewish members of the public. Volunteers from Shomrim detained the suspect until police arrived; officers deployed a taser and then arrested the man. The group said two people were injured and were being treated by its volunteers.
The incident was reported by Shomrim, the BBC and The Times. Police have opened an investigation and further details, including the condition of the injured, have not been released.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the episode as “deeply concerning” during Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons. He told MPs he had been briefed before the session and urged support for the police inquiry, saying parliament should be clear in its determination to tackle such offences.
The attack comes amid a series of suspected antisemitic incidents in north London in recent weeks, an area with a large Jewish community. Authorities say those incidents — which included an attempted arson at a synagogue and an arson attack on ambulances — caused no injuries. Several people, ranging from teenagers to individuals in their 40s, have been arrested and charged in connection with those cases.
Police continue to investigate the latest stabbing and have appealed for anyone with information or footage of the incident on Golders Green Road to come forward.
