Police in London arrested a man armed with a knife after he stabbed two members of the public, according to the Jewish community group Shomrim, as well as the BBC and The Times.
“One male was seen running along Golders Green Road armed with a knife and attempting to stab Jewish members of the public,” Shomrim said online. “Shomrim responded immediately and detained the suspect. Police attended and deployed a taser. The male has now been arrested.”
The group said two people were wounded and were receiving treatment from volunteers.
What did Prime Minister Keir Starmer tell parliament about the case?
Asked about the incident during Wednesday’s Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons, PM Keir Starmer described it as “deeply concerning.”
“It is deeply concerning to everyone in this house,” Starmer told MPs, saying he had been briefed on the incident before the session. “There is now a police investigation, and I think we all need to do everything we can to support that investigation and be absolutely clear in our determination to deal with any of these offenses, the like of which we’ve seen too much recently.”
Several suspected antisemitic crimes have occurred in north London, which has a large Jewish population, in recent weeks amid the wider tensions linked to the war on Iran. These incidents include an arson attempt at a synagogue and another arson attack targeting ambulances.
No one was injured in those arson incidents, which took place within a few kilometres of each other. Several people, ranging in age from teenagers to people in their 40s, have been arrested and charged.
