April 4, 2026 — Many Germans are adjusting their Easter and short-term travel plans because of conflicts and crises, a survey published Saturday found. The study, carried out by the German Institute for Tourism Research, polled 1,124 people between March 25 and 30. Sixteen percent said they had changed plans for the next three months for geopolitical reasons. Julian Reif, head of the institute, said political conditions at destinations have become an important consideration for holidaymakers: “Going on holiday is not unpolitical.” Despite worries, 72% of respondents still intend to travel domestically or abroad during the April–June period. Within Germany, Bavaria remains a popular destination, while Spain and Italy top the list for overseas trips.
