Paris police detained more than 130 people Saturday after fans of Paris Saint-Germain erupted into disorder following the club’s Champions League final victory over Arsenal.
PSG beat Arsenal 4-3 on penalties in a dramatic match. By 11 p.m. local time (2100 GMT) authorities said they had detained over 130 people in connection with disturbances across the city.
Officials reported that unrest began earlier when Arsenal took the lead during the penalty shootout. An estimated 20,000 people flooded the Champs-Élysées; some supporters set off fireworks and lit flares.
Police said they confiscated several hundred fireworks and a number of flares. A bakery and a restaurant near PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium were damaged during the unrest.
Authorities described policing operations and investigations as ongoing and said further updates would be provided as information becomes available.
