Ipsos has made a significant leadership change by appointing Mitch Barns as Chairman and CEO for the Americas, starting November 2, 2026. This new role places him at the forefront of Ipsos’ operations in the United States, Canada, and Latin America.
Joining Forces with Leadership
Mitch Barns will report directly to Kelly Beaver, the CEO of Ipsos, and will also take part in the Executive Management Committee. With an impressive track record and a clear vision for the future, he is expected to propel Ipsos towards new opportunities.
A Proven Leader in the Industry
Bringing extensive experience to the table, Barns previously served as the Global CEO of Nielsen from 2014 to 2018. Under his leadership, Nielsen transformed itself as a major player in the analytics and insights industry, strategically reshaping the company worth over $6 billion, with operations spanning more than 100 countries and a workforce exceeding 40,000.
During his tenure at Nielsen, Barns focused on key mergers and acquisitions, as well as investments aimed at attracting top-tier digital and technology talent to ensure sustainable growth.
Profound Background and Achievements
Prior to his role as CEO, Barns held various positions, including President of Nielsen’s U.S. Media and President of the Greater China division. His vast experience also encompasses leadership roles in advanced analytics and product innovation.
Following his time at Nielsen, Mitch became the CEO of The Opus Group from 2021 to 2024, leading the company through a successful resurgence in a post-pandemic environment. He has also contributed to several boards of leading analytics firms and has acted as an advisor to private equity investors specializing in data and technology solutions, placing him in a prime position to drive Ipsos' ambitions in the Americas.
Looking Ahead
Kelly Beaver expressed her enthusiasm about Mitch’s appointment, stating, “The Americas are a vital market for Ipsos. His extensive experience and solid track record in our industry make him the perfect candidate to advance our growth strategy.” She also acknowledged Mary Ann Packo for her contributions and assured a smooth transition before Packo leaves IPSOS at the end of November.
In his own words, Barns emphasized the need for innovation within the industry and expressed excitement about joining Ipsos at this transformative time: “Ipsos is uniquely positioned to lead with its talented workforce and extensive capabilities. I look forward to collaborating with Kelly and the dedicated teams across North and Latin America to deliver exceptional service to our clients.”
