NoMad Singapore Makes Its Debut in Asia's Luxury Scene

How do you bring the essence of New York to a vibrant city known for its unique culture and heritage? The answer is NoMad Hilton Singapore, an exciting new hotel that aims to redefine luxury hospitality on Orchard Road.

Luxury at Its Finest

The NoMad Hilton Singapore marks the brand's inaugural venture into the Asia-Pacific region, with bookings already available for its 173 thoughtfully designed rooms. Anticipated to open later this year, the hotel features a stunning 14-story cascading waterfall and a botanical facade, conceptually crafted by the renowned architectural firm Woha.

Design Inspired by Culture

Alan Watts, Hilton's President for the Asia-Pacific, emphasizes that NoMad is designed to resonate with Singapore’s identity. "While Singapore boasts a robust luxury hotel market, we're responding to a growing demand for unique design and experiential stays," he shares.

The property is strategically situated at the intersection of Cairnhill and Orchard Road, taking over the former Faber House. Guests will find the check-in area on the fifth floor, where they are greeted with a refreshing drink at Lu Bar, an open-air space that immerses visitors in lush greenery while offering views of Orchard Road.

A Celebration of Art and Heritage

The interiors of NoMad Singapore feature a soothing palette of pale blue and green, complemented by Peranakan influences that pay homage to the nearby Emerald Hill. Food enthusiasts can indulge in the quintessential New York steakhouse experience at the NoMad Grill on the top floor, while The Tropicana Club cocktail bar harks back to the 1960s-era Tropicana, providing a nostalgic charm.

Highlighting local talent, the hotel showcases an impressive collection of over 1,860 artworks by artists based in Singapore, with 90% of the pieces being original or commissioned works. These creations range from oil on copper to large bas-relief installations, weaving together themes of the past and present.

Additionally, NoMad is committed to community engagement, forming partnerships with non-profit organizations like ART:DIS, which supports artists with disabilities.

Forging New Paths in Luxury Hospitality

According to Watts, NoMad embodies a new era of luxury. He noted, "Today's travelers are looking for more than just opulent suites; they desire authentic experiences and a real connection to their destination. They want hotels that express a distinct personality."

Hilton is evolving its portfolio to suit these varying preferences, with properties ranging from established luxury brands to lifestyle-oriented concepts that offer unique experiences. One example is the soon-to-open Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, which aims to offer a distinctly Malaysian flavor.

Furthermore, brands like Conrad combine contemporary design with local influences, creating connections for modern luxury travelers to their surroundings.

Growth Opportunities in Asia-Pacific

Watts points out that the Asia-Pacific region is pivotal to Hilton's expansion, representing nearly half of the group's luxury pipeline. As the market witnesses a rise in affluent travelers, Hilton aims to sustain this momentum by opening 250 luxury and lifestyle hotels across the region.

Much of this growth is fueled by an increase in high-net-worth individuals, with expectations that a significant portion will emerge from Asia in the coming years. These travelers seek personalized experiences, often driven by a strong sense of cultural identity and style.

Tailoring Hospitality

Hilton’s various lifestyle brands each tell a unique story while maintaining brand integrity. For instance, Canopy Bangkok Sukhumvit captures the creative spirit of its locale, while the Tapestry Collection’s NHAAN Resort & Spa Hoi An reflects the city's rich heritage.

In India, Hilton's introduction of Slohh by Roach Bengaluru exemplifies how each brand is tailored to resonate with local culture.

Watts explains that selecting the right brand for a market involves careful analysis of local demand, current hotel experiences, and future traveler trends, ensuring each hotel remains relevant over time.

A Personal Touch

When it comes to personal travel, Watts seeks hotels that prioritize the basics of comfort and hospitality. He expresses a preference for accommodations with a strong sense of place, exceptional dining, and attentive service. "Great design captures attention, but it’s the people who leave a lasting impression," he notes.

In summary, NoMad Singapore aims to meld the charm of New York with the cultural richness of Singapore, setting a new standard in the luxury hospitality landscape.
