Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal Recognized as Sustainability Leader by Forbes

His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has been recognized by Forbes Middle East as one of the Sustainability Leaders for 2026. This accolade acknowledges his impactful work as the President of the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), which he has led since 2020, in furthering sustainable development initiatives throughout the region.

AGFUND's Legacy and Vision

AGFUND, founded in 1980 and based in Saudi Arabia, is committed to improving living conditions through development projects that align with sustainability goals. Under Prince Abdulaziz’s leadership, AGFUND has been instrumental in launching diverse programs that aim to enhance the quality of life and empower communities.

Your Role in Promoting Development

In addition to leading AGFUND, Prince Abdulaziz chairs multiple boards, including the Supreme Investment Committee and the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development. His engagements also extend to being the Chair of the Board of Trustees for esteemed institutions such as the Arab Open University and the Center of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR).

The establishment of the Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Endowment system in 2020 marked a significant milestone in his efforts to enhance maternal and child care in Saudi Arabia. This initiative has positively impacted around 50,000 families so far, thereby continuing the philanthropic legacy of his late father, Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz.

Global Impact Through Development Projects

Over the years, AGFUND has successfully completed 1,818 development projects in 172 countries, in collaboration with over 500 partners. The organization’s recent board meeting highlighted its strategic plan extending to 2030, which includes financing 15 new projects aimed at various sustainable development goals.

Core areas of focus include financial inclusion, health care, and environmental sustainability. In particular, AGFUND is dedicated to initiatives that address climate change and promote adaptation strategies within affected communities.

Raising Awareness and Building Resilience

Noteworthy among these initiatives is the 'Green in Arabic' platform, launched in conjunction with the Arab Network for Non-Governmental Organizations. This program serves to educate Arabic speakers on climate change and fosters environmental consciousness.

AGFUND also participated in the COP16 conference in Riyadh, where a significant global food security initiative was announced. This project brings together over 30 diverse organizations, aiming to bolster support for smallholder farmers and address critical agricultural sustainability concerns affected by climate change.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal’s inclusion in Forbes' prestigious list of sustainability leaders showcases a growing emphasis on the vital roles played by development institutions in achieving sustainable progress. Through their comprehensive approach, AGFUND seeks to create inclusive communities equipped to tackle future challenges effectively.
