Trump to Present Science Awards to Tech Leaders Musk and Huang

President Trump will honor Elon Musk and other tech innovators with prestigious science awards at an upcoming summit.

On October 8, President Donald Trump will host a summit titled "Science: A New Golden Age" in Washington, where he plans to honor notable figures from the tech industry, including billionaire Elon Musk and Nvidia's Jensen Huang.

Recognizing Innovation

The White House has announced that Musk, along with Sergey Brin of Alphabet and Lisa Su from Advanced Micro Devices, will each receive the National Medal of Science. This prestigious award highlights their significant contributions to science and technology.

Additionally, Michael Dell, founder of Dell Technologies, and Satya Nadella from Microsoft are set to receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. These awards underscore the recognition of groundbreaking achievements within the technology sector.

Collaboration with Tech Leaders

The forthcoming summit will mark another opportunity for Trump to engage directly with top executives from Silicon Valley. Just a week prior, he met with these leaders to address concerns regarding artificial intelligence (AI), especially in light of recent data security issues.

Despite the pressing calls for increased regulatory measures to safeguard AI developments, Trump has primarily advocated for a self-regulatory approach. He believes that overregulation could hinder the United States' competitiveness with nations like China in AI technology development.

"The Trump Administration is grateful for the contributions of these incredible leaders in science and technology. These recipients are helping ensure America keeps leading the world in innovation," stated White House spokeswoman Liz Huston.

Future Plans for AI and Education

The summit promises to serve as a platform for influential scientists and innovators to discuss the trajectory of AI advancements. Notably, Trump is expected to announce a significant donation from National Compute, an applied intelligence company, amounting to $100 million in computational credits aimed at fostering scientific research.

Furthermore, the administration will reveal plans to allocate over $100 million to support education initiatives for American researchers concentrating on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects. Such investments signify a commitment to bolster innovation and scientific inquiry across the nation.

In light of the increasing focus on AI, Trump has even proposed rebranding the term to “super intelligence” as part of his initiative to recognize and elevate the field.
