Trump Warns of GOP Struggles Ahead of Midterms
In his final speech before the elections, Trump highlights potential Republican challenges and discusses his achievements.
In a final rallying cry before the midterm elections, President Donald Trump addressed supporters at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming vote.
Reflections on Midterm Elections
Trump remarked, “This is the last day before the midterm elections — the most important midterm, I believe, in our lifetime.” Acknowledging historical trends, he noted that historically, the sitting president's party tends to struggle in midterms. “We gave this a very strong shot,” he affirmed.
Highlighting Economic Achievements
The president took time to tout his administration’s economic successes, citing records in personal incomes and low poverty rates. However, he cautioned that these achievements could be undermined if voters select candidates who oppose his policies.
“It all doesn’t matter if we’re going to be foolish and let people that hate our country win an election,” he stated, urging his supporters to show up at the polls.
Critique of Democratic Candidates
Trump went on to criticize the Democratic candidates, claiming they represent a radical agenda that threatens key American values. He labeled them as “dangerous” and accused them of promoting initiatives like open borders and increased taxation.
In his speech, he mentioned the Alaska Senate race, highlighting reports of a candidate being recruited to confuse voters. “They got somebody named Dan Sullivan to run against Dan Sullivan. It’s corrupt,” Trump declared.
Celebrating National Projects
In addition to addressing the election, Trump used the opportunity to announce the reopening of the Reflecting Pool after repairs. He spoke of various renovation projects initiated during his second term, including upgrades to historical sites in Washington, D.C.
Trump boasted about significant renovations, stating, “We’re booming like we’ve never boomed before.” He detailed efforts to combat graffiti, improve lighting fixtures, and restore monuments.
Final Campaign Push
The president wrapped up a strenuous campaign schedule leading up to the election, having held 28 rallies across 19 states in just one month. Despite focusing on campaigning, he took the time to celebrate the completion of the Reflecting Pool, which had been closed for extensive repairs since July.
As he addressed supporters, Trump seemed to enjoy the symbolism of the moment: “Just to show how beautiful it is. It’s been finished. We have cameras all over the place now for the vandals,” he joked.
“We’ve cleaned hundreds of sites of graffiti, fixed over 2,300 lighting fixtures, and renovated over 83 statues and monuments.”
With the midterm elections just hours away, Trump expressed optimism about the GOP turnout. “We’ve got some big races tomorrow,” he said. His words underscored a pivotal moment for Republican prospects in the upcoming vote.
